Michael Ballack began his club career at Chemnitzer FC. He then moved to Kaiserlsautern before joining Bayer Leverkusen since 1999. Together with Leverkusen, Ballack was a finalist in the 2002 Champions League before losing to Real Madrid. He was later bought by Bayern Munich and won several Bundesliga titles.

Ballack had a chance to try out the English League competition when joining Chelsea. He ended his football career at the Leverkusen club before retiring in 2012.
