Thanks to a penalty, the Senegalese national team qualified for the 2022 World Cup finals

Aliou Cisse's Senegal national team has qualified for the Qatar 2022 World Cup finals. This certainty cannot be separated from Senegal's success in defeating Egypt in the second leg of the last round of the 2022 World Cup Qualification for the African Zone, Wednesday (30/3/2022) early morning WIB. Competing at Stade Me Abdoulaye Wade, the Senegalese national team had to fight until the penalty shootout to overthrow Egypt.

The winner of the Senegal vs Egypt match must be decided on penalties after the aggregate score was still tied 1-1 until the end of extra time. The Senegal vs Egypt penalty shoot-out was fierce because the two kickers from each team failed to fulfill their duties. One of the two missed kickers was the captains of both teams, namely Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal) and Mohamed Salah (Egypt). The Senegal national team finally came out victorious after Sadio Mane, who came forward as the last executor, successfully completed his task. The final score of the match was 3-1 (1-1 on aggregate to extra time) in favor of Senegal. This is the second success of the Senegalese national team in burying Egypt's big dream in 2022.

Exactly on February 6, the Senegalese national team also successfully defeated Egypt in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations final on penalties. The victory over Egypt this time led the Senegalese national team to qualify for the World Cup for the third time in their history. Previously, the Senegalese national team had appeared in the 2002 and 2018 editions of the World Cup. The Senegal national team managed to take the lead in the third minute thanks to Boulaye Dia's quick goal. After that goal, the Senegalese national team managed to dominate the match with a percentage of ball possession reaching 63 percent. However, Senegal have not managed to score an additional goal until the end of the first half despite having fired a total of seven shots on goal. On the other hand, confined Egypt was only able to release one shot on goal throughout the first half. Proceeding to the second round, the Egyptian national team slowly began to give resistance. Egypt's national team players began to dare to hold the ball longer and accelerate. So the highlight of the Egyptian national team was almost equalized in the 75th minute if Ahmed "Zizo" Sayed's right-foot shot did not go wide. Seven minutes later, it was the turn of the Senegalese winger, Ismaila Sarr, who threw away opportunities in front of goal. Despite having faced Egypt goalkeeper Mohamed Elshenawy, Ismaila Sarr failed to complete the opportunity after his right foot shot went wide. No additional goals were created. The score 1-0 for Senegal's advantage lasted until the end of normal time.

The result made Senegal and Egypt have to continue the match into extra time because the aggregate was still a 1-1 draw. Proceeding to the first round of extra time, the Senegal national team immediately took the initiative to attack first. Exactly in the 93rd minute, Senegal almost doubled their lead if Pape Cisse's header had not been saved by Elshenawy. Two minutes later, Elshenawy made another brilliant save when he parried a close-range shot from Bamba Dieng's right foot. Until the end of the first half of extra time, Elshenawy recorded an important save. On the other hand, Egypt were unable to fire a shot on goal during the first 15 minutes of extra time. Continuing to the second half of extra time, the tempo of the match decreased slightly with Senegal still being in control of the game. In the 113th minute, Bambe Dieng tried his luck by curling a right-footed shot from outside the penalty box. However, Bambe Dieng's effort still did not bear fruit because his shot went wide.

The match in the end had to go to a penalty shootout after there were no additional goals until the end of extra time. Senegal vs Egypt
