The European Football Federation (UEFA) also announced the postponement of the four-year competition, the European Cup, which was scheduled for June and July 2020. The delay was to make room for several domestic leagues to complete the competition.

Almost all competitions in the European leagues have been paused, beginning with the Italian Serie A, then the league in other countries. The purpose of the European Cup being postponed is so that the new season of the domestic leagues runs on time. Not only the domestic league, UEFA also temporarily stopped the Champions League when the last 16 was completed halfway.

In the first leg, several matches had been held without spectators. First, the competition continues with the two-leg scenario. The postponement of the 2020 European Cup has left some domestic league and UEFA club tournaments with enough time to finish the competition as usual. But for the Champions League, UEFA only has to finish the second leg of the last 16, even though there have been two matches that have completed two legs.

Second, following the European League League scheme. This possibility still matches the round of 16 and the quarter-finals that play two legs, before playing one leg system in the semifinals and finals in Istanbul, Turkey. If similar to the European League of Nations, the competition will quickly end.

However, many countries in Europe have shut down their countries from flights to avoid spreading the virus originating from Wuhan, China. Thus, this scheme makes the most sense, when it is difficult to reach access to countries where clubs are still performing in the Champions League. The location of the Champions League final could also be moved, given the increased level of transmission in Turkey and the introduction of travel restrictions that make the situation even more complicated.

The final choice is the bitterest, that is, without any champions this season. But this is the most likely scheme to be carried out, if the competition does not start immediately within the next two months. If the match is not continued in May, the club will be charged with a solid match when the league in each participant's country starts again.

However, the possibility of a soccer competition to start in the near future is still small, amid the corona pandemic. "Further decisions on when the match will be held will be further communicated," UEFA explained in a statement quoted from the official website.
