Corona virus has 'undermined' English football. How Liverpool's Fate?
Corona virus has 'undermined' English football. The latest news, competitions at level two and below will be postponed.
Quoting the BBC, Friday (3/13/2020), matches at the level of the English Football League (EFL) will be stopped until 4 April. The EFL houses three divisions under the English Premier League namely Championship Division, League One and League Two.
Previously, a number of Premier League clubs instructed players and all staff to conduct self-quarantine (self-quarantine). First is Arsenal, where the training facility at Colney was closed after Head Coach, Mikel Arteta, tested positive for the corona virus.
"Arsenal personnel who have been in contact with Mikel Arteta are currently conducting independent isolation in accordance with government guidelines. We estimate that there are quite a lot, including the first team and coaching staff, including several people from the Hale End academy," said Arsenal's official statement.
Second is Everton. The Merseyside club from neighboring Liverpool revealed that a first team player had a high fever and is currently undergoing independent isolation for seven days.
"In accordance with government guidelines, the club's training facilities have been closed. Staff, players, are advised not to come to the club's facilities until further notice," wrote an official statement on the Toffees website.
Third is Bournemouth. Citing official information on the club's website, five employees are currently in a phase of independent isolation after showing symptoms similar to COVID-19.
"Goalkeeper Arthur Boruc. Together with four players and staff, are entering a period of isolation in accordance with government guidelines. At present no one has been tested and tested positive for the corona virus," Bournemouth's official statement said.
Today, the Premier League holds a meeting to determine the fate of the competition. The fate of Liverpool, which is now comfortable at the top of the table, is at the forefront if then the Premier League decides to whiten the competition. If the Premier League takes a similar step with the EFL, then Liverpool can still continue on their way to the first English title in 30 years.
Finally the results of the meeting came out. The Premier League has decided to postpone the entire match until April 4, just like the EFL.
"We pray for Mikel Arteta and Callum Husdon-Odoi (Chelsea midfielder) to get well soon, so will everyone infected with COVID-19. This is an unwanted situation. We continue to work with clubs, governments, the FA and the EFL to ensure health and the welfare of players, staff and supporters, "said Premier League CEO Richard Masters.
This development makes Liverpool still have a chance to continue the steps towards the Premier League trophy. The Red just need two more wins to legally be the best in the universe of Queen Elizabeth football.
