Real Madrid:The Champion Candidates are Humiliated by Eternal Rivals
Real Madrid must feel the harsh reality at the Santiago Bernabeu. Los Blancos lost 0-4 to Barcelona which made them now recorded as having lost three times throughout the Spanish La Liga this season.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang became the hero in the match by scoring two goals, namely the opening and closing goals, and an assist for Barcelona's third goal scored by Ferran Torres.
While another Barcelona goal was scored by Ronald Araujo. Real Madrid's crushing defeat was the third defeat experienced by Carlo Ancelotti's team in the Spanish La Liga this season.
This defeat does not really affect Real Madrid's chances of becoming La Liga champions this season. Real Madrid have only lost three of their 29 matches, of which 20 ended in wins.
This defeat also made Real Madrid no longer the team with the fewest defeats this season, where Sevilla who are in second place are still the team that has lost the least with only two defeats. However, Sevilla, who only won 15 wins, is clearly far behind Real Madrid.
That is, even though it lost with a large number of goals from Barcelona, it did not just close the brilliant performance of Luka Modric et al. throughout this season. A total of 59 goals scored by Real Madrid in Spanish La Liga makes them the most productive team in the highest caste of Spanish football.
Even if you look at Real Madrid's journey in La Liga this season, Carlo Ancelotti's team at worst only dropped to third place in the second jornada. In addition, Los Blancos always maintain the top two positions in the standings.
With Real Madrid's incredible strength this season, it's certainly interesting to see how the opposing team can make the Spanish capital giants fall and drop points. In addition to the loss to Barcelona discussed above, here are two of Real Madrid's defeats in La Liga this season:
First defeat, at the hands of the Catalans
Real Madrid's first defeat of the season occurred in the eighth La Liga match against Catalan side Espanyol on 3 October 2021. Real Madrid lost 1-2 in that match.
Playing at the Espanyol headquarters, the RCDE Stadium, Real Madrid had to fall behind two goals first. Raul de Tomas scored in the 17th minute and was doubled by Aleix Vidal in the 60th minute.
Real Madrid could only score a reply in the 71st minute. Karim Benzema became the goalkeeper for Espanyol, maximizing the bait provided by Luka Jovic.
The defeat indirectly made Real Madrid, who was in the top position, began to lose that position and dropped to second place in the La Liga standings.
Losing Again at the Opponent's Cage, this time from the City Team
Real Madrid's second defeat in La Liga this season occurred in match week 19 on January 2, 2022. Playing at Getafe's headquarters, Coliseum Alfonso Perez Stadium, Los Blancos narrowly lost 0-1.
Real Madrid had conceded a goal when the game had only been running for nine minutes. Getafe punished Los Blancos with a goal scored by Enes Unal which made Thibaut Courtois have to take the ball from inside the net.
Throughout the game, Karim Benzema et al. trying to be able to reply to the goal. However, none of the goals could be created until the game was over.
Despite the defeat, Real Madrid remain at the top of the table having gone 11 games unbeaten, with 9 of those matches ending in wins since the first loss at the hands of Espanyol.
Worst defeat, at home, to Barcelona, crushing again
If in the first two defeats Real Madrid experienced at the opponent's headquarters, losing three points against Barcelona would be very embarrassing because it happened at their own headquarters. Real Madrid fans had to watch their beloved team lose 4-0 to their main rivals, Barcelona, at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Worse yet, if the two previous defeats at the opponent's headquarters only ended with a difference of one goal, the defeat to their arch-rivals at their own headquarters was even more severe.
Real Madrid were already two goals down by the time the first half ended. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored in the 29th minute, which was doubled by Ronald Araujo in the 38th minute. Both goals were created thanks to the role of Ousmane Dembele who sent the bait.
Meanwhile, Barcelona immediately stepped on the gas in the second half and scored the third goal when the second half had only been running for two minutes. Ferran Torres netted Real Madrid after maximizing feedback from Aubameyang.
Four minutes later, it was Ferran Torres' turn to send a pass for Aubameyang who managed to score his second goal in this match as well as Barelona's fourth goal. Barcelona's 4-0 advantage lasted until the game was over.
