2000s

2000 City returns to the Premier League after two consecutive promotions. A 4-1 away win over Blackburn at Ewood Park which ensured promotion to the Premier League was followed by an invasion of the gridiron by supporters of the Blues.

2002 City manager in the future, Stuart Pearce captained City and led his men back to promotion to the Premier League. They broke the club record in terms of the number of points they won and the goals they scored.

2003 Maine Road holds its final match when City play Southampton against May 11. An emotional farewell. The stadium has been home to City for 80 years. City moved to a sleek new stadium, the City of Manchester Stadium with a capacity of 48,000 spectators.

2007 Sven Goran Eriksson replaces Stuart Pearce as manager and on 15 December City set a club record for their participation in the English top flight by recording nine straight wins at home at the start of the competition.

2008 Abu Dhabi United Group becomes the new owner of Manchester City. Former Wales star, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United Mark Hughes was appointed as the new City manager. City broke the record for player transfers in England for the second time by signing Robinho from Real Madrid for £ 32.5 million.

2009 Roberto Mancini, former Inter Milan manager replaces Mark Hughes in December.

2010 The Blues won the best ranks throughout their work in the Premier League by occupying the fifth rank and therefore have the right to participate in the Europa League. They also reached the League Cup semifinals.

2011 The wait period to lift a trophy ends when City beat Stoke 1-0 in the FA Cup. Not just that, they qualified for the 2011/12 Champions League for the first time.

2012 City won the Premier League for the first time in 44 years following a very tense competition season. It was only through a goal in the final seconds of the competition that Sergio Aguero scored when City defeated QPR, ensuring City became the champion and welcomed by an excited crowd at the Etihad stadium.

1990s 1992 The FA Premier League is formed, with City and QPR being the first matches in history to be held on Monday night and aired by Sky.

1994 City says its farewell to the Kippax Tribune because a law prohibits standing terraces in the stadiums of members of the Premier League. In its time Kippax was the largest standing tribune in the entire country.

1995/1996 A dramatic season with City appointed three different managers: Alan Ball, Steve Coppell and Frank Clark as well as appointing Asa Hartford and Phil Neal as caretakers.

1997 City introduces a new badge. The new badge design displays the motto in Latin "Superbia in proelio" which means "self-esteem in battle".

1999 One of the most dramatic matches ever played at Wembley witnessed City promotion through a penalty kick against Gillingham in the Second Division Play-Off. 1980s 1981 City becomes finalist in the 100th FA Cup final along with Spurs. Following the 1-1 draw on Saturday, a replay or repeat match was held, and it is still considered one of the best FA Cup finals to date. City narrowly defeated 2-3 following Ricky Villa's goal that struck the ball beautifully, although Steve McKenzie's goal from a long-range shot nearly 30 meters was considered by City supporters to be much better.

1986 City plays in the Full Member Cup final, which for the first time was held at Wembley in front of a crowd of 68,000.

1987 A record victory at Maine Road is City's first when beating Huddersfield Town10-1. City's biggest win in the derby at Maine Road was to beat United 5-1.

1989 City promotion after passing the last match in the competition season beat Bradford.

1970s 1970 City brilliantly wins trophies in Europe and domestically: Cup Winners Cup and League Cup.

1972 The club badge is replaced by the red rose symbol of Lancashire.

1974 City lose in the League Cup final to Wolves.

1976 The Blues beat Newcastle United 2-1 at Wembley with a goal from Peter Barnes and a spectacular overhead kick from Dennis Tueart.

1979 City breaks the transfer record by bringing in Steve Daley for £ 1,450,277. In a span of two years, City became the first club to sign players for over £ 1 million (Kevin Reeves and Trevor Francis the other two). 1960s

1965 A new badge is made in 1965 based on the central shield of the symbol of the city of Manchester.

1966 City wins Second Division and promotion under the management of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison.

1968 The Blues beat Newcastle on the last day of the season to win the Premiership competition for the second time in their history.

1969 Manchester City beats Leicester City 1-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

1950s 1955 City loses to Newcastle in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

1956 The Blues play the second FA Cup final in a row, but this time defeated Birmingham 3-1. Their victory parade was broadcast outside the Granada Television studio.

1958 The Munich plane crash killed almost all of Manchester United's main players and also killed several journalists including former City goalkeeper Frank Swift.

1945 to 1950 1947 City promotion as Division Two champions.

1949 Official MCFC supporter club founded.

1939 to 1945 WWII League during the war was founded with City playing in the North division. With severe damage at Old Trafford, United must play their home matches at Maine Road. However, the City never allowed United to use the host's dressing room if the two teams met.

1930s 1934 After losing the previous year, City beat Portsmouth 2-1 to win the FA Cup.

1934 A record local audience number, 84,569, is recorded on Maine Road when the Blues host Stoke City.

1937 Manchester City win the Premiership Competition for the first time in history.

1920s 1920 Hyde Road Stadium, which became City's home, became the only football stadium in the area visited by members of the royal family.

1923 After Hyde Road is destroyed by fire, City moves to Maine Road with a capacity of 85,000.

1926 A turbulent year. Manchester City, which has no manager, became the first club to play at Wembley (FA Cup runner up), recording the highest victory in the Manchester derby (6-1 at Old Trafford) and was relegated in the same year.

1928 City are promoted after becoming Division Two champions and becoming the club with the support of the best supporters.

1914 to 1918 PD I The football league was suspended from 1915-1919, although a substitute tournament at the regional level was still ongoing with City playing in the Lancashire Division.

1875 - 1910 1880 The Church of St Mark formed a football team that would later evolve into an MCFC.

1884 The uniform known as the "City's first shirt" was made in black, and decorated with a white cross on the left chest. Some say the cross was due to a symbol of strong ties to the Freemasons in the 1880s, while others say the evidence of their association with St. Mark is still strong.

1887 The team evolves into Ardwick AFC and moves to Hyde Road.

1889 An explosion at a coal mine near Hyde Road kills 23 miners - Ardwick and Newton Heath hold a charity friendly match at night to help disaster victims.

1892 The Second Division of English football is founded, Ardwick becomes one of its founders.1894 Ardwick AFC turns into Manchester City Football Club in its efforts to become a city representative.

1889 City wins Second Division and becomes the first team to automatically win promotion.

1904 The Blues defeat Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup final in Crystal palace, becoming the first Manchester team to win the prestigious trophy.
