The Most Bizarre Football Player Transfers of Football History
Lots of unexpected moments in football. Even at the transfer market, many players who surprisingly moved to a club that was previously unpredictable. But this time we will not talk about a surprising move for a player, but rather the craziest transfer exchange in football history.
Curious who these players are? Following the starting eleven give a review.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic & Samuel Eto'o
Right on July 27, 2009, there was an exchange of the fate of two great attackers in the history of football. Barcelona who started the revolution under Pep Guardiola brought Zlatan Ibrahimovic from Inter Milan. Instead, the Blaugrana sent Samuel Eto'o to Inter, who was in his golden age.
The transfer agreement was so hot reported by the media. Eto'o expressed his dissatisfaction with life in Barcelona. Guardiola immediately opened the exit for the Cameroon striker, while aiming Ibrahimovic who was fertile in the Nerazzurri.
In this regard, Eto'o's career is much brighter. The Cameroon striker recorded 16 goals as Inter won the treble winners, where they ruled Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League. While at Camp Nou, Ibra won the La Liga title, but only scored ten goals in all competitions. For Ibra, he felt uneasy after being involved in a dispute with coach Guardiola.
Henrikh Mkhitaryan & Alexis Sanchez
Two rivals of the English Premier League, Manchester United and Arsenal, had exchanged enough attention. In January 2018, Alexis Sanchez officially joined Manchester United from Arsenal on a four-and-a-half-year contract. As a player exchange agreement, the Red Devils, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, moved closer to Arsenal.
In the corner of Old Trafford, the Chilean player became the most unlucky. The reason is, Sanchez's ability has even declined after joining MU. He who previously appeared so fierce at Arsenal did not make an impact for the club nicknamed The Red Devils.
While Henrikh Mkhitaryan, although the journey was not too smooth, at least he appeared quite slick and became an important part of the London cannon squad.
Roberto Carlos & Ivan Zamorano
Inter Milan at the time had expressed interest in the Chilean striker who played for Real Madrid, Ivan Zamorano. Inter saw Zamorano as a very important forward for Los Blancos at the time.
Inter then made a bid of 1 million pounds plus the inclusion of Brazilian left-back Roberto Carlos, who has played with them for the past season.
Until finally the transfer exchange agreement was agreed by Real Madrid. Carlos's move made him one of the best wing-backs in the world. While the only moment that Zamorano could best remember with Inter was when he wrote down the number 1 + 8 on the back of the jersey.
Francesco Coco & Clarence Seedorf
Again, Inter lost money in barter transfers. At that time instead of enemies of the city, AC Milan. The club nicknamed I Nerazzurri agreed to swap experienced midfielder Clarence Seedorf for left-back Italian national team Francesco Coco. Coco himself just returned from a loan spell and performed nicely in Barcelona, so Inter are interested in bartering players.
However, Coco, who is prone to injury, turned out not to be very good for the club, and survived five seasons, two of which had been loaned out, until he retired at the age of 30.
While Milan is very lucky to get Seedorf. The Dutchman became a legend after playing for 10 seasons. He also presented 10 trophies, including two Serie A trophies and the European Champions League.
Ashley Cole & William Gallas
One of the next craziest deals is Ashley Cole and William Gallas. Two players from each club at that time were already equally not comfortable to settle down and threatened to leave.
Chelsea and Cole then held an illegal meeting to discuss the transfer plan. Upon the meeting, both parties were given a fine. Until finally the exchange agreement agreed with Chelsea must include a fee of 5 million pounds plus William Gallas in 2006.
After Cole's move to Chelsea, Arsenal fans also vent their anger to the English-born player. Being at Chelsea, Cole managed to donate the European Champions League trophy. While Gallas, one of the most memorable moments with Arsenal is when he inherited the back number 10 which was previously used by Dennis Bergkamp.
Diego Simeone & Christian Vieri
Barter players again involving Inter. But, this time they made an exchange with Lazio. The club, also nicknamed La Beneamata, gave up their flagship midfielder to get a long-wanted striker. In 1999, Inter released Diego Simeone and received Christian Vieri from Lazio. However, they still have to spend 49 million euros which became the most expensive record at that time.
Even so, Inter's decision turned out to be right. Vieri spearheaded Inter for several seasons. While Simeone immediately won the domestic treble with Lazio in its inaugural season.
Fabio Cannavaro & Fabian Carini
Fabio Cannavaro and Fabian Carini might be an unreasonable exchange. The reason, Inter feel trapped by Juventus guile through Luciano Moggi's expertise. In 2004 Inter were fooled and had to lose a world class defender to Juve. While they, got Fabian Carini who only made as the third goalkeeper.
After escaping from Inter, Cannavaro successfully won two successive Scudetto titles, although in the end the title was withdrawn and given to Inter Milan, following the Calciopoli case. However, he got a more amazing change, namely a World Cup trophy in 2006 with the Italian national team.
