Leroy Aziz Sane was born on January 11, 1996 in Essen, Germany. Sane was born to Soulymane Sane and Regina Weber. Sane's parents are migrants. His father who is from Senegal migrated to Germany for football reasons. His mother is from France, he settled in Germany after getting the chance to play gymnastics.

On 13 December 2014, Sane scored his first goal in a 2-1 defeat at home to FC Koln. The name Leroy Sane began to be taken into account when the Essen-born player became the youngest player Schalke to score in the Champions League.
