Antonio Conte feels 'cheated' by Tottenham's fantastic outward appearance
Antonio Conte saw Tottenham as an interesting project to take. However, when he was at the club, Conte was frustrated with the policies carried out by Tottenham.
As if inconsistent, Conte then accepted Tottenham's proposal in early November 2021. Conte became the replacement for Nuno Espirito Santo who was sacked after getting a series of bad results at the start of the season.
So far, Tottenham's performance under Conte has not been consistent. Conte also poured out his heart about the conditions that occurred at Tottenham.
Interesting from the outside, but..
Conte recently had two principles before accepting the proposal of a club, namely the champion project and arriving at the start of the season. Both were fouled for Tottenham's sake. Because Conte is interested in Tottenham's outward appearance.
"It's difficult to make comparisons, but if I'm looking for the same, it's the lack of confidence that is inevitable when you start working at a club that hasn't won for a long time," Conte told Sky Sports.
"I saw some situations from the outside that looked like they could be developed, but when you go into them, you realize that something... What happened in January is not easy," he said.
Conte is reportedly very disappointed with Daniel Levy, the owner of Tottenham, over the club's actions in the transfer market. Conte feels he doesn't have enough support to build a competitive squad.
Tottenham Weakened Themselves
Conte wants to add a few players in the transfer market. Luis Diaz and Dusan Vlahovic are on target. However, both failed to attract. On the other hand, the players who came were not worth the players that were let go.
"We lost four players in January. Four important players for Tottenham, and we only brought in two. So although only in terms of numbers, instead of strengthening the squad, we weakened ourselves," said Conte.
"Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski are ideal prospects for Tottenham, because Tottenham are looking for young players they can develop and develop, not players who are ready. That's the problem," said Conte.
Guardiola on Conte: Coming to England, all teams imitate the tactics of the three defenders
Josep Guardiola knows very well that Antonio Conte is one of the best coaches in England at the moment. He recalled that Conte had changed the face of the competition a few years ago.
Currently Conte is struggling to fix Tottenham's problems. He was brought in in the middle of the season to improve the team's performance and try to achieve the target.
Unfortunately, so far Conte seems to have difficulty forming the team he wants. He also honestly admits that the Spurs are still far from the target, that now they are still in trouble.
Even so, Guardiola believes Conte's qualities will help Spurs reach the top level, what does he say?
Need time
According to Pep, there should be no doubt about Conte's quality. Spurs are currently struggling in mid-table, Conte is also unable to get the players he wants.
Even so, Guardiola knows Conte quite well. He believes Conte's difficulties are still reasonable.
"Every coach needs time and investment to compete at the top level in this country, this place [Premier League] is more difficult than anywhere else in the world," said Guardiola.
"He can talk about it. We all know how difficult this country is. I have a lot of respect for him, because I can see that his team has learned something new."
Conte at Chelsea
Guardiola also alluded to Conte's first era in the Premier League a few years ago, when he was coaching Chelsea. At that time, Conte surprised the Premier League with a three-back tactic that led the Blues to win.
"That's when he came and the impact was clear, a lot of teams started playing with five at the back, before always playing at four. He came and other teams imitated his tactics," continued Guardiola.
"He brought change to many teams. He won the league very convincingly, playing 5-4-1 or 5-3-2."
