Gli Azzurri met North Macedonia in the semifinal match of Path C play-off 2022 World Cup at Stadio Renzo Barbera, Friday (25/3/2022) early morning WIB. Playing at home, the Italian national team appears confident.
Italy had 65 per cent possession, compared to 35 per cent for the visitors. The Gli Azzurri also had 32 shots and only five on target.
Despite controlling the game, the Italian national team lost 0-1 to North Macedonia. Macedonia's only goal was scored by Aleksandar Trajkovski in the 90+2 minute.
With these minor results, the Italian national team failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup finals. Gli Azzurri for the second time in a row were unable to win tickets to compete in the world's greatest football tournament.
Italy's failure to appear in the 2022 World Cup made the Pizza Country public furious. Various criticisms were directed at Roberto Mancini's team.
Not only criticism, the Italian national team also received ridicule from various parties. Most recently, supporters of the Swiss national team booed Italy's failure to this year's World Cup.
When Switzerland lost 1-2 to England in a friendly match at Wembley Stadium, Sunday (27/3/2022) early morning WIB, supporters unfurled a banner depicting a Google search that read: "Italy World Cup Qatar 2022".
Then added: "Did you mean: SWISS".
Suddenly the action of the Swiss national team supporters was crowded in cyberspace. Many think that the action of Swiss fans in mocking the Italian national team is a creative thing.
The failure of the Italian national team to advance to the 2022 World Cup finals cannot be separated from the result of the match against Switzerland. Both teams are in Group C of the 2022 World Cup qualification in the European zone.
In two meetings against Switzerland, Gli Azzurri were only able to draw 0-0 and also 1-1. As a result, the Italian national team is in second place in Group B with 16 points, two points behind Switzerland who occupy the top position and qualify directly for the 2022 World Cup finals.
