AC Milan beat Napoli and Olivier Giroud The Winner
AC Milan successfully won an important victory after defeating SSC Napoli at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on week 28 of the Italian League Serie A. In the match which was held on Monday morning WIB, March 7, 2022, Il Rossoneri won with a narrow score of 1-0.
The only goal in this match was scored by Olivier Giroud in the 49th minute. Napoli had tried to equalize through several attacks, but was often broken by defender Milai before being created into opportunities. Lorenzo Insigne and his friends could not score a single goal for 90 minutes.
AC Milan had almost scored a second goal in the last minute when Alexis Saelemaekers already faced David Ospina. But his shot still bounced up.
Match statistics show that Napoli have a landslide advantage in possession of the ball with the percentage reaching 61 percent compared to 39 percent. But AC Milan fired more shots at goal, which was seven of a total of 12 kicks. Meanwhile, Napoli had nine shots but only two were on target
With this victory, AC Milan has the right to occupy the first position aka Capolista. They have collected 60 points in the Serie A standings, two points behind their main rivals, Inter Milan. Meanwhile, Napoli are in third place with 57 points
The only goal that was created in this match was born from the feet of Olivier Giroud. The AC Milan forward deflected the ball that was not aiming right at Napoli's goal with one touch, making David Ospina fooled.
There are five interesting lessons that Bolaneters need to learn from this match. More information can be seen by scrolling down.
1. Giroud the Victory
The Goddess of Fortune seems to possess Olivier Giroud's body. Every time the French striker scores a goal in a game, Milan is capable of winning whoever the opponent is.
Based on Whoscored's record, Giroud has scored in eight matches with the club nicknamed the Rossoneri. He scored 11 goals and all of them were swept away by Milan with a win.
Some of them are difficult matches, such as the time against Inter Milan in early February. In addition, Giroud also scored a goal and contributed a victory for Milan against Lazio, AS Roma, and also Torino.
2. Break a bad record at the San Paolo
Stadio San Paolo, which has now changed its name to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, holds many bad memories for Milan. For Milan, the legendary stadium is hell.
It's not that Milan have never won there. They are also able to achieve positive results. But recording back-to-back wins at the San Paolo is not something that is common for Milan.
Milan recorded consecutive wins at the San Paolo for the first time since 1981. A record that is expected to continue, as Napoli are getting stronger as time goes on.
3. How is that possible, Saelemaekers?
Milan should be able to come out with a bigger score margin. Their counter-attack was quite effective, but mostly failed to make the Napoli goal net vibrate.
The score could change to 2-0 for Milan in the final minutes of the match. Napoli preoccupation attack to leave a gaping gap in defense. Milan tried to take advantage of the situation to lock the win with the second goal.
In a one-on-two situation, Theo Hernandez handed the ball to Alexis Saelemaekers who was in a good position, unmarked and only facing the goalkeeper. However, Saelemaekers shot soared high.
4. Napoli's Defense Troubled?
It should be noted that Napoli are the team with the fewest goals conceded in Serie A this season. The goal that David Ospina often manages has only conceded 20 times, fewer than Milan, who now occupy the top.
But their nicks are quite worrying lately. Il Partenopei have not kept a clean sheet since the last time they did so on February 6, which was against Venice.
Six games have passed since that clash, and Napoli have already conceded nine goals. The good news, apart from the second leg of the Europa League against Barcelona, they only conceded one goal per game.
But Napoli can't breathe a sigh of relief. One day, their front line will have a bad day like the match against Milan. If they keep conceding goals, they will receive bad results more often in the future.
5. The Scudetto Battle Is Getting More Exciting
The top three teams in the Serie A standings are separated by a very, very thin distance. Milan as the leader of the standings collected 60 points, followed by Inter Milan with 58 points and Napoli 57.
Nothing is safe. The competition seems to be running until the end of the season. It takes mental steel to be able to win a trophy in a situation like this.
And in recent years, the three teams have often experienced a decline in performance towards the end of the season. This situation is further exacerbated by Juventus who are getting closer, and are only seven points adrift of Milan.
